Short throw shifters are like cold air intakes - when utilized properly, they can be advantageous, but a lot of people use the term and don’t really know what it entails. First of all, a short-throw shifter is not simply a shorter shifter...contrary to common belief, sawing your shifter in half doesn’t mean you now have a short throw.

So what does it mean? Typically a short-throw shifter is shorter, but it also raises the pivot point of the shifter, meaning there is less distance to travel in between gears. Shifting is more difficult, but what you gain is the ability to shift through gears faster, with less movement. These shifters also have a more direct feel to them, that many car enthusiasts enjoy. Having a good quality short throw shifter installed can dramatically change the way your car feels as you shift through the gears, making it more responsive and spirited to drive.
