Trucks are classified by categories, being labeled as grade 1-8 depending on their weight at maximum capacity, with 1 being the lightest, and 8 being the heaviest. For most intents and purposes, you can consider any truck below 26,000 pounds “light duty.” These trucks don’t normally pull a trailer, they don’t have air brakes, and they don’t require a CDL. Any truck over 26,000 pounds requires a special license and is subject to other regulations.
